Tourism is booming, and infrastructures are being built within indigenous lands in the Philippines. But how are these changes affecting the local people’s identity and way of life? Are they really benefitting?
This project explores the effects of tourism and urban development on indigenous communities in three areas in the Philippines: Ifugao Rice Terraces in Luzon, Boracay in Visayas, and South Cotabato in Mindanao.
Profit remains to be the main priority when it comes to tourism and development, while the local people are left behind. The land and the environment are tied to the local people’s way of life. If these are taken away from them, they will lose not just their livelihood but also their identity.
